Hagerstown, MD – Irene Margaret (Stenger) Shank, 104, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Twin Oaks Assisting Living in Williamsport, MD.
She was born on July 8, 1918 in Williamsport, MD to the late Leslie Summers and Iva Ellen (Flora) Stenger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Perry Shank in 2004.
Irene was a 1935 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD.
She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education working as a Cafeteria Manager for 24 years until her retirement in 1984.
She was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church and served as the organist for over 50 years.
Irene enjoyed cooking for others.
She is survived by her son Donald L. Shank of Williamsport, MD; sister Marcelyn Forsythe of Williamport, MD; granddaughter Brenda Appleby and her husband Todd of State Line, PA; granddaughter Tina Shank of Hagerstown, MD; grandson Dennis Shank of Martinsburg, WV; step grandson Charles Jordan of Hedgesville, WV; great grandson Tyler Appleby and his wife Olivia of Pine Grove, PA; great granddaughter Haley Appleby and fiance’ Chris Summers of Greencastle, PA; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Mildred McKee, Clara Pryor, and Bernice Boyd; brother Leslie Stenger; daughter-in-law Margaret Marie Shank.
