Irene Avis Garrison age 95 passed away April 9, 2016, at home in Boise.

Irene was born on her grandparents’ homestead near Naper, Nebraska to David and Frieda Bitterman Fischer, July 23, 1920.  She lived on this homestead during the depression and dust storm years and learned the hard work of farm life.

At age five she started school in a one room country school which she attended through the eighth grade.  In 1937 she graduated from Naper High School.

She attended Wayne State Teachers College for two years.  Later she got her teaching  degree at Central Washington College in Ellensburg, Washington.  Her first teaching job for three years took place in the same country school she attended.  The following two years she taught in Naper town school.

Irene married Robert L. Garrison at Spencer, Nebraska on August 4, 1946 on his way home from the European Theater of World War II.  They moved to Cashmere, Washington where Robert and his two high school buddies bought and ran a fruit ranch. Irene taught school in Dryden and Peshastin schools for four years.

Their two sons, Norman and Bobby, were born in Wenatchee, Washington.

After thirteen years of fruit farming, Robert decided to go into the bowling business.  They moved to Boise in 1959 and Robert was one of the proprietors of Westgate Lanes.  Irene began teaching again and taught  in Koelsch School for twenty one years, for a total of thirty years.

Irene spent many years bowling.  She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and garden work during her active years.

Survivors include her sons Norman and wife JoLynn of McCall, Idaho, Bobby of Meridian, Idaho and grandsons James, David and Scott.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Harold and Orion Fischer, and her husband Robert.
