Irene Emma Coulter Strother passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 18, 2014 after a year long battle of multiple cancers. She was born in Houston, TX, married the love of her life, Voy “Tex” Lloyd Strother in 1949 and they moved to Gulf Breeze, FL with their children in 1965. In the ’60’s they managed the Sun Ray Motel on Pensacola Beach, FL and later she worked at the Post Office/Laundromat across the street. She also worked at General Nutrition Center (GNC) in Cordova Mall in Pensacola, FL as Assistant Manager. After her husband passed away in 1973 she went back to GNC to open a new store in University Mall where she was the Manager and traveled the district opening new stores from Mobile, AL to Panama City, FL. Later she worked in Gulf Breeze at TG&Y and K-Mart where she retired. Her interests were her family, gardening, football, NASCAR and Willie Nelson!! Her motto was always “Leave ’em laughin’!” and she did! She was loved by all! Her survivors are her daughters, Evelyn Rushing (and husband Ron)of Robertsdale, AL, and Gail Gean (and husband Richard), her son Jack Strother (and wife Gloria), a brother, Milton Coulter of Lafayette, LA; 1 step-son Mike Strother of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. 5 grandchildren (Michele Gray Raymond, Cindi Gray Robey, Amanda Strother Simmons, Ryan Voy Strother, and the apple of her eye, Dylan Lloyd Gean), 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. The family would like to thank Emerald Coast Hospice and Bayside Manor for the great care and love they gave her in the last year of her life.
