Irene Eisenberg (née Levy), 93, of Monroe Township, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Born on New Year’s Day in New York City, Irene raised her family in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn before settling in Monroe Township in 1996. A passionate and natural leader, she served as President of her community’s Yiddish Club, cultivating and sharing the joy of Jewish culture and the Yiddish language for over two decades. Irene honed her artistic talent at the Brooklyn Museum; her award-winning paintings and sculptures adorned her house and inspired the creative pursuits of her children and grandchildren.
Irene lived a love story many read about only in novels. Her 57-year marriage to her soulmate, Abe, was bookended by heart-fluttering embraces and filled with chapters of traveling, dancing, and discussing the morning paper over a hot cup of coffee. With an appetite for life and her mother’s latkes, Irene was happiest at the holiday table, surrounded by her adoring family. She was a fiercely loyal matriarch who instilled in every life she touched a relentless sense of resilience, tradition, and humor.
Predeceased by her husband Abraham Elias Eisenberg in 2008, Irene is survived by her daughters Dr. Deborah Eisenberg and wife Donna Messina and Marcia Eisenberg Kusnetz, Esq.; her grandchildren David (Claire), Marc (Arielle), and Sarah Kusnetz and Kayla Eisenberg (Michael); and her great-grandchildren Kira and Madelyn Kusnetz.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We love you forever and will miss you deeply.
