Irene C. Smith, 99, of West Haven passed away on September 4, 2011. Born in Hamden, daughter of the late William and Mary Sullivan Smith. Sister of Mary Smith of West Haven and Monsignor Vincent J. Smith of PA. Also survived by her nieces and nephews and their families; Nancy Simmons, William A. Smith, Catherine Walsh, James Carleton, and Elizabeth Maciolek. Irene retired in 1976. She was predeceased by her sister Lorraine Carleton, her brother William R. Smith, her aunt Irene Sullivan, and her niece Mary Kate Carleton. She was a teacher for over 40 years, teaching at New Haven County Home and Stiles School, West Haven. She also worked for the Board of Admissions Dept. at Yale University. Irene’s family would like to thank the staff at Milford Health Care for all their compassion and care over the years.
