Irene Cruse, 88, of Denver, Colorado passed away in her daughter, Elma Olivas’s Brighton home on January 11, 2013. She was born on December 20, 1924 to Tranquilino and Irene (Duran) Cruz in Rainsville, New Mexico. She’s preceded in death by her first husband, Anselmo Cisneros whom she married in 1942.
She was raised on her parent’s farm along with her seven siblings in Rainsville where she also attended a local school. After marrying Anselmo, they had their only child, Elma, and soon moved to the Denver area. Irene was well known in the food industry including her time spent as a chef, caterer, and restaurant manager. Her elaborate food displays and ice sculptures were just a few of her many talents. She owned her own store and café in Springer, New Mexico. Irene’s independent spirit took her on many adventures. She traveled to Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and many other U.S. destinations. She even went as far as Canada and Mexico.
Irene touched many lives, young and old. Her generous nature helped many. It is not unusual to hear of how she helped friends and family as they began their careers or in their time of need. Later in life, she was a beloved caregiver to the elderly. Irene had a fondness for eye-catching vehicles and owned several models, including a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I. She hosted many parties and loved to dance and sing to Mexican music. Above all else, the Catholic faith was a key element of her life.
