Irene Bird Hensley, 96, of Fort Oglethorpe, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, in a local health care facility. She was a resident of Soddy-Daisy and had lived in North Georgia areas and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Hensley had worked as a bookkeeper with the Rivermont Golf and Counry club, the Soddy-Daisy Water Company and was a well-known area tax preparer. She was preceded in death her parents, Levi and Lena Cooper Bird, 12 brothers and sisters and two husbands, Homer Mitts and George Hensley. Survivors are sister, Muriel Montine Bird, California; nieces and nephews. Don Byrd, Ringgold, Gloria Smith, Mississippi, Patti Porto, California, Bobby Byrd, Tennessee, Dale Byrd and Jean Barr, both of Texas, Neil Bird, Ringgold, Nancy Krusoe, California, and Sheryl Brown, Louisiana.
