Ira Monroe McKoy Jr., age 87, passed away January 06, 2022, at his home in Newnan, GA. He was born January 22, 1934, in Newnan to the late Monroe McKoy Sr. and Bill McKoy. Monroe graduated from Newnan High School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a Machinist Mate on the USS Alvin C. Cockrell, a destroyer escort. After completing his enlistment in the Navy, he worked for Georgia Power at Plant Yates for 30 years, and he retired in 1989. After retiring, Monroe enjoyed going on mission trips and working with his church, Providence Baptist, where he was a deacon. He also enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping his neighbors. Monroe leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Joyce McKoy, and his sons, Joe McKoy (Leslie), Mike McKoy (Tresha) and Greg McKoy (Cassy); grandchildren, Beth Kam (Jason), Justin McKoy, Mitch McKoy (Mercedes), Jesse McKoy (Emily), Scott McKoy (Amelia), Callie McKoy, and Brianna Williams, great-grandchildren James Tomlinson, Caleb McKoy and Aiden McKoy, and many other family and friends.
