Ira was born in Lawrence County, Alabama on October 1, 1957 to Purfice Griffin Boyd and the late Edward Ira Boyd. He departed this life at Decatur Morgan Hospital-DGH Campus on March 22, 2014.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Byler Road Church of Christ.
He was educated in the Lawrence County School System. He was a retired truck driver.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Edward Ira Boyd; two sisters, Ella Beatrice Webb and Beverly Ann Boyd; and three grandchildren, Cedrica Maye, Jam-ria Cole and Ka’Mayiah D. Lilly.
He leaves a legacy of love and memory to: his mother, Mrs. Prufice G. Boyd of Moulton; four daughters,
Vedetta Hood of Athens, Iris House of Birmingham, ReShanna Cole and Shelle Cole both of Decatur; two sons, Jason Cole of Decatur and Joshua Smith of Moulton; eight grandchildren, Donta, Jaylin, Jakira, Jamara Cole, Trayvon Blackman, A’Shantae Hood, Cedrianna and Shamichael Maye; three sisters, Jennifer Taylor, Jenetha Boyd both of Moulton, Alice (Ezell) Orr of Courtland; two brothers, David (Michelle) Boyd of Moulton and Stanley Boyd of Brent; three uncles, Luther Boyd, Willie Gene Boyd, James Jones; four aunts, Bertha (James) McDaniel, Bessie Echols, Hattie Merle McDaniel and Marie Truss all of Moulton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friend.
