Ira I. “Curly” Hunter, 84, Indianapolis, died March 10, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born September 21, 1927 in Paoli, Indiana. Ira was plant manager for Howe Fire Apparatus for 30 years and retired in 2000 from the Jennings County Sherrif’s Department.

He attended Indian Creek Christian Church in Indianapolis. He was a 25 year member of Order of Eastern Star #183 and a mason. He loved farming, gardening, and spending time with friends, family & his yorkies.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Marilyn Joy Reichard Hunter; children, Lonny Hunter Karen of Markleville, Mary Hunter-Avalos Jerry; two stepdaughters, Chantel “Dee Dee” Helpling at home & Mistie Rivera Lyndon; grandchildren, Niki Estes Jim, Veronika Hall Kyle, Matt Hoover Joanna, Joshua Hoover Rhiannon, Christopher Hunter, Megan Douglas Wes, Darrell Hunter, Nikki Hunter, Danny Avalos, Vinnie Avalos, Paloma, Diego & Gabriel Rivera; eleven great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jayhue Mundy; several nieces and nephews; and Kim & John Wetzel and Betty & Jim Lamb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Thelma Wilson Hunter; son, Rodney Hunter; and siblings, June Mundy & Willard Hunter.
