Ione M. Evans, age 92 of Stockton, IL, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. She was born May 7, 1919, at home in Apple River, IL the daughter of the late William & Ellen (Martin) Rowe.
She was the youngest and last survivor of six children and their spouses. Ione married Orville Evans on February 10, 1942, in Warren, IL he preceded her in death on October 10, 1996. She loved school and graduated from a 3-year High School program in Apple River in 1936, and then went to Warren High School for her fourth year and graduated in 1937. Ione & Orville farmed 1 1/4 miles north of Apple River Canyon State Park from 1942 to 1967. Then they moved to Freeport, where she was employed by Sears as Head Cashier for 17 yrs from 1967 to 1984. In June of 1999, she moved to Stockton to be closer to her daughter. Ione spent her days making beautiful quilts, sewing quilted table runners and lap quilts for all occasions. She also embroidered and crocheted.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Evelyn Heikens of Georgetown, TX, and Ann (Jerry) Hayes of Stockton; five grandchildren, Debbie (Jimbo) Swenson Jr of Georgetown, TX, Heather (Ben) Davis of Georgetown, TX, Tammy Bartolomei of Rockford, IL, Dennis (Angie) Hayes of Montfort, WI, and Laurie Jordan of Orangeville, IL. Eleven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Louis, Kenneth & Lawrence, two sisters Pearl Babb, B’Ella Sincox, son-in-law Richard Heikens and one great-granddaughter Courtney Hayes.
