Ione Frances Grinnell, age 92 of Big Rapids, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Spectrum Health Reed City Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born on July 4, 1923 to Clarence and Hattie (Crane) Hoisington in Lansing, Michigan. Ione married Gerald C. Grinnell and together they made their home and raised their family in the Lansing area before moving to Holiday, Fla. Ione has resided between Lansing, Big Rapids, and Reed City on and off since 2000.
Ione was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, a former member of the Forest Hills East Civic Association, and currently enjoyed attending Liberty Baptist Church in Reed City.
Ione is survived by one son Jerry A. (Carolyn) Grinnell of Dresden, TN; one daughter, Judy Hulliberger of Reed City; one step-son, Larry Sandmeyer of Phoenix, AZ; one step-daughter, Jerri Lee (Bill) Sandmeyer-Reid of Glendale, AZ; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one on the way.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents, one son John William Hartman in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, her husband Gerald in 1995, and one brother, Fredrick Hoisington.
