Ione E. (Schultz) Morrissey, 98, of Papillion, passed away January 22, 2014 at Welcov Assisted Living in Papillion, Nebraska. She was born to Carl and Fannie (Blecha) Schultz on June 12, 1915 near Tecumseh. Ione was the youngest of nine children. She attended elementary school and graduated from Tecumseh High School.
She was united in marriage to Bernard R. Morrissey on May 26, 1931. After their marriage, they lived three miles south of Tecumseh on old highway 50. They later made their home on her parent’s farm southwest of Tecumseh. In 1959 they moved off the farm and to Sutherland where Bernard worked as an inspector for the State of Nebraska. They bought the Buffalo Hotel in Kearney in 1968 and she and Bernard ran the motel for over 20 years and also started the first storage business in Kearney in the 70’s. Ione kept the records for the storage unit for many years. While living in Kearney, she and Bernard were members of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Bernard passed away on June 6, 1992. After his death, Ione became more homebound. In 2010, Ione moved to Papillion to be closer to her family. Ione will be remembered fondly by her family for her banana cake that she always brought to special functions.
Ione is survived by her sons, Bernard “Gene” Morrissey and wife Jayne of Blair and Patrick “Pat” Morrissey and wife Marian of Papillion, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Phyllis Morrissey of North Platte and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bernard, son, Ronald Morrissey, daughter, Rita Hothan, two brothers, six sisters and son-in-law Arthur Hothan.
