Ingeborg “Ing” Sherer, 92, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.
Ing was born October 21, 1928 in Hanna, Wyoming to Rudolf and Ella (Todt) Lembcke, the first of three daughters. After living in Wyoming for 5 years, they moved to Cushing, Iowa where she went to grade school. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1946.
Ing attended Drake University for 2 years before working at Bankers Life (now Principal). She met the love of her life at Bankers Life, Robert E. Sherer, Jr. and on May 21, 1950 they were married in Holstein, Iowa. The couple made their home in Des Moines where Ing worked in the Athletic Department of Drake University for 27 years.
Ing shared 59 years with her husband. Sharing in Dale Carnegie training and teaching, Stephen Ministry at Plymouth Congregational Church and other church activities since 1948. Ing was also a member of PEO Chapter HE. For the past 16 years Ing has lived at Scottish Rite Park where she cherished many connections and friendships.
Survivors include her daughters: Barbara (David) Godwin of Des Moines, Marci (Jason) Graham of Lakeport, CA, Susan Sherer of San Anselmo, CA, Jade Sherer of Prescott, AZ; grandchildren: Sarah (Ryan) Owens, Samantha (Dwight) Stewart, Joseph Graham, Adam (Rita) Godwin, Jessica (Jack) Schroeder, Kiara Owens; nine great grandchildren: Aeden, Alena, Corina, Evalyn, William, Robert, Jackson, Calvin, Hendrix; sisters: Anna (Loren) Lorenzen of Tennessee, Margaret Durst of Des Moines. Ing was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and her dear friend, Bob Freed.
