Inez “Darlene” Tingey Skenandore – our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend –
returned to her Heavenly home on April 29, 2016. Throughout her remarkable 88-year journey, Darlene embodied hope, humor, courage, gratitude, and – most of all unbounded love.
Darlene was born March 12, 1928 to Homer C. Tingey and Doris Christensen. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1946, and later attended LDS Business College and BYU.
While working at Intermountain School, she met a handsome, young man named Darold William (Bill) Skenandore. They were married on October 28, 1950 at the Intermountain School Chapel.
Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple in September 1975. Darlene grew to love Bill’s Native American heritage and family. Because of Bill’s career with the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs), they lived on several Indian Reservations, where she relished her time living and serving among the Native Americans.
Darlene served for many years in numerous locations in the Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary organizations. Her favorite being Relief Society President in Shiprock, NM, where she loved serving and working with the Navajo people. Her heart was so full of love for those that had so very little. Darlene was a member of the DUP. She loved music, had a strong alto voice, and was an accomplished organist and pianist.
Darlene was a little spit-fire, standing at 4’9′. But her size was deceiving, as she was strong, determined, and would not give up, no matter the set-back. We are grateful we had her with us for so long, and we rejoice that she will be ours forever. Our hearts are broken, but we are comforted knowing that Darlene is once again, standing straight and tall with renewed strength and vigor to continue her eternal path.
She is survived by her husband Darold William Skenandore, and her children: Susan (Steve) Carr, Lee Skenandore, and Kevin (Tamara) Skenandore, 11 grandchildren and 19 and A great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Carolyn (Lee) Despain and brother David (patsy) Tingey. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter.
Thanks be to Drs. Shaw, Bitner, and Diehl for their patience, humor, and loving care. They exemplify what health care should be all about.
