Imogene Brown was born on December 8, 1927, in Porter Township, Cass County, Michigan to Forest and Estella Lawson. She was raised in Calvin Center, Michigan, and later moved to Kalamazoo in 2006 as a retiree.

For nearly fifty years, beginning on June 29, 1946, Imogene was married to Preston Brown Jr. until his passing on June 2, 1996.

She was resourceful at generating supplemental income for the family by managing rental property, baking and selling custom-made cakes, and breeding, training, and showing Boston Terrier dogs under the name of her business, Impreska Kennels. As a dog show handler, Imogene competed in a multitude of dog shows, the most prestigious being the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2003 where “Cosmo” won best in the breed. Imogene fought through battles with cancer and spinal stenosis in her earlier years while continuing to maintain a quick wit and charm throughout her life.

Imogene Brown passed away gracefully in her sleep on Friday, August 24, 2018. She is survived by her two children, Larry Brown of Westminster, CO and Karen Holmes of Littleton, CO; her grandson Kerry Brown; and grandchildren Benjamin and Brittany Holmes; one brother Paul Lawson; two sisters Sandra White and Audrey Lawson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
