Imogene Barnes, 74, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 18, 1938, in Pisgah, the daughter of James Miller and Olivia Burton. She married Leroy Barnes and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Anthony (Tina) Barnes, Mitzi (Todd) Linear, Stephanie Barnes (companion Abram Carr), Stephan Barnes (companion Billie Jo), and Dennis (Amy) Rattler, all of Jacksonville, and Luasha (George) Watts of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Pruitt of Compton, CA, and Genevieve Sims of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Wright; and a brother, Robert Burton.

Ms. Barnes was a 1957 graduate of Jacksonville High School. She was of the Baptist faith. Imogene was well-known for taking care of any child who needed a home, including a special girl, Tina Grisby, now residing in Springfield. She especially loved to play Bingo.
