Iluminada (Luming) Beenken, age 71 of Algona, passed away peacefully December 12, 2020 surrounded by her family at her home. Iluminada (Luming) Bariso Galicia Beenken, the daughter of Marta Bariso Galicia and Efipanio Galicia, was born on November 30, 1949 with a registered birthday of December 31, 1949 in Tayabas, Philippines. As a child growing up in the Philippines she attended school through the 6th grade. After her marriage to Wayne she completed her GED and went on to get her Real Estate License. Luming had a prearranged marriage at the age of 14 to Ereneo Pascual. To that marriage was one son Jaime Pascual. Later she divorced him and moved to Angelos to pursue a career in tailoring. Luming met the love of her life, Wayne Beenken, in the Philippines. Wayne was stationed there and met Luming on her birthday and had set up a date, but due to a family emergency in the States he left the Philippines for a month. When he returned he found Luming courted her and then later married her on January 10, 1970 in the Philippines. On February 20, 1970, Luming then traveled to the States alone to live with the Beenken family until Wayne completed his tour. To that marriage, they had two sons Jay and Terry. Luming had many jobs and accomplishments. In addition to Real Estate at Jim White Partners she owned her own restaurant, Luming’s Wok In, Diagonal Laundry Mat, worked at Sernett’s, Bomgaars, Pioneer, Good Sam, Algona City Taxi Driver and Sum Hing Restaurant. Waye and Luming then took in Rowena SanJose to their home as well as many foreign exchange students. Luming enjoyed her retirement spending time with Wayne, her children and grandchildren, camping, domestic and foreign travel, and sewing. Luming was a member at the First Presbyterian Church of Algona where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Luming fought a courageous battle in 2003, with stage three breast cancer living cancer-free for many years until it returned in 2015 with stage four metastatic breast cancer. Left to cherish Iluminada’s memory are her children, Jaime (Shannon) Pascual of Ruthven, Jay (Sherri) Beenken of Algona, Terry (Angela) Beenken of Mankato, Minnesota, Rowena (Matt) Jacobson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, grandchildren, Michael (Angeli) Pascual, Jaime Pascual II, Tristen (McKenzie Hellman) Pascual, Savana (Jeb) Kothenbeutel, Sierra (Zach) Myer, Alexis (Griffin) Truslow, Cassandra Beenken, Ethan Beenken, Isaiah Beenken Jasmine Johnson, Joe Jacobson, and Jack Jacobson and also 3 great grandchildren; brother, Primo Galicia of Philippines, sister in law Marlis Beenken, Sharon (Denny) Heinen and brother in law Daryl (Nancy) Beenken. Foreign exchange daughters Pinky (Michael Hjelmeland) Mok of Algona and her children Fiona, Corina, Tiara and Tyler, Chloe Mok and Candy Mok of Hong Kong, Wai Sze (Daniel) Cheng and her children Caleb and Mary. She also has many nieces and nephews and all her Philippine family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wayne Beenken in 2015, sister Corazon and brothers Pio and Salvador, sister-in-law Wilma Luppen, brother-in-law Phillip Luppen, Merlin Beenken. Special thanks to Mercy One Cancer Center and associates especially, Dr, Craig and assistant Allison for all their years of support with Breast Cancer, Hospice of the Heartland of Algona, and Marieta David and Ging Howe for helping during the day, so it was possible for mom to remain at home as tradition in the Philippines.
