Ilona Nemeth, 87, of 170 Circle Dr., Galesburg, passed away in her home Wednesday, August 20, 2008 surrounded by loving family.

She was born February 2, 1921 in Csorotnek, Hungary, the daughter of John and Anna Kuntar Nemeth. She married Jeno Nemeth on May 29, 1944 in Rabagyarmat, Hungary. Jeno preceded her in death on April 13, 2000.

Ilona is survived by two daughters, Klara (Les) Kulcsar of Davenport, IA and Magda (Joe) Greene of North Bend, OR; one son, Steven of DeKalb; one sister, Terez (Ferenc) Nemeth of Chicago; four grandchildren, Steven Kulcsar of Lee’s Summit, MO, Kathy Coiner of Davenport, IA, Thomas Kulcsar of Davenport, IA, and Bernadette Santistevan of Tooele, UT; and five great grandchildren, Matthew, Ryan, Taylor, Stephanie, and Mei Ling. Also surviving are two special sisters-in-law, Etel Nemeth of Galesburg and Ilona Monek of Hungary, plus her caring Circle Drive neighbors.

In addition to her husband Jeno, Ilona was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Laszlo J. Nemeth, one daughter, Marika in Hungary, as well as two brothers (including Gyula of Galesburg) and two sisters.

The Nemeth family immigrated to the United States in December 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution. A seamstress in Hungary, Ilona was initially a homemaker after the family’s arrival in Galesburg. She later worked as a seamstress for Fred Schubach, Inc. where her husband was employed as head tailor.
