Illa Jean Kendall

1927 ~ 2014

Illa Jean Kendall was born on June 23, 1927, in Richfield, Idaho to Payton and Verona Hurt. She moved to Jerome at 2 years of age and then moved to Gooding, Idaho at age 13. She spent her early years enjoying friends and family and then graduated from Gooding High School. After this she moved to the big city of Boise, Idaho at age 18.

Illa married Harry Kendall at the age of 20 on April 16, 1948. Harry was in the restaurant and bar business and they were part owners of the Interlude Bar and Eastside Café in Ontario. They met numerous lifelong friends at this time. They traveled the world to Harry’s various job sites when he went to work for Bechtel Construction. Some of the places Illa and the boys lived were Australia, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.

Illa enjoyed her many friends and family and if there was silence among friends she would gladly fill in the conversation. In later life Illa worked 10 years at Blue Cross and volunteered for S.H.I.B.A. to help seniors with insurance problems. She won an award in 2004 for being the SHIBA volunteer of the year. She was flown to Washington D.C. and was presented the award by Senator Larry Craig.

Illa is survived by her sons, Patrick (Patricia) Kendall of Boise, Idaho; Casey Kendall of Los Angeles, California; Tim Kendall of Twin Falls, Idaho; Tom Kendall of Boise, Idaho; sister, Frances (Keith) Tester of Boise, Idaho; her beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Shana, Jacob, Jordan, Hannah, and Joseph; and her great-grandchildren, Peyton, Mattix, and Ryder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Joseph Kendall, and her father and mother, Payton and Verona Hurt.

Illa will be greatly missed by all her family and friends that loved her so much. Thank you for all who helped with her care; Life’s Door Hospice, Dr. Nona and Dr. Kuhn, and the wonderful people at Garnett Place.
