Ilene Cable, 102 of Huntsville passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022.  She was born February 27, 1920 at Rucker, Missouri to Arthur and Oma Elizabeth (Sword) Cleeton.

She married George H. Cable, November 11, 1961 in Moberly, Missouri, and preceded her in death December 31, 1980.  Also preceding her in death were her parents, a great grandson Abel Cordell Dale and a brother Larry Cleeton.

Survivors include her children, Victor and Trudie Barnett of Moberly, Liz and Kevin Dale of Huntsville and George and Lora Cable of Jefferson City, 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, brother and sister in law, William and Ella Mae Cleeton, nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Ilene was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends and was known far and wide for her apple pie, which she frequently donated to the school fundraisers with them bringing $100.00.

Growing up she lived on a farm where they grew cane and made their own sorghum and would sell or trade it for things they needed from the local store.  She would say they rode in the wagon to town and she would get a penny and could buy a whole bag of candy with it.  She walked two and half miles to school everyday and completed 8th grade in a one room schoolhouse on March 9, 1934.

Ilene worked as a waitress for Iona’s Cafe and Reed’s Corner.  She later drove a school bus for Moberly Public Schools, retiring in 1991.  This was one of her favorite jobs as she loved her kids.

Ilene’s true love was for her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.  Nothing brought her more pleasure than being with family and attending anything the grandkids were involved in.

She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
