Mrs. Ida Mae Henderson McConnell, 83, formerly of Ellwood Dr. and Kivett Drive, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Hospice Home at High Point.

Mrs. McConnell was born Nov. 26, 1923 in Selma, Ala., a daughter of Rev. George Edward Henderson and Mrs. Ida Mae Phillips Henderson. She attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, where she met her husband, the late Alphonso “Buster” McConnell. A resident of High Point for more than 60 years, she was a member of St. Paul Presbyterian Church, a former deaconess, trustee, and member of Church Women United. Civically, she was a former member of the board of directors for Developmental Daycare of Guilford County, nurturing many school and neighborhood children. Socially, she was a member of Le Seurs pinochle club during its existence.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Carole A. Wilford; her parents; one sister, Emma Dinkins; two brothers, George E. Henderson and Nathan P. Henderson; one granddaughter, Wendy Dawn Saunders; and four nephews.

Survivors include: two sons, Andrew H. (Evelyn) McConnell and Alphonso B. McConnell, both of High Point; two daughters, Aljuana (Ronald) Saunders of Severn, Md. And Terri Lynn McConnell of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Eric Wilford, Rhonda (Julius) Wilder, Amber McConnell, Jeffrey Saunders, and Jawarri Copeland; two sisters, Ann Henderson Thornton of Augusta, Ga., and Emma L. Deyampert of Cleveland, Ohio; “sister” friends, Christine Haywood, Idell Boone, Peggy Allen, Ruby Sellers, Dorothy Cullins, and Miriam Everette; three nieces, Rev. Nancy Thornton-McKenzie, Kimberly Thornton, and Rosa Dinkins; cousins, other relatives and friends.
