Ibbie L Dyer, 89, passed away on Monday, February 14th at Creasy Springs Healthcare Facility where she had been a resident in Legacy since June. Ibbie was born in Boone County on March 3rd, 1932 to Laura and Ernest Ritter. Ibbie was one of six children, all who preceded her in death. Ibbie spent most of her childhood years in Linden, Indiana where she graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1950.
Ibbie began her career in 1950 at Bell Telephone as an operator and continued her work at General Telephone until her retirement in 1990.
Ibbie met the love of her life, Donald Dyer while in high school and married January 21st, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1969. Together they had three daughters; Cheryl Bliss (Lionel), Crawfordville, FL., Donna Ward (Ralph), Lafayette, IN., and Susan Ruhl (Randy), Indianapolis, IN. Ibbie was a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren; Melissa O’Brien (Patrick), Joseph Ward (Tammy), Elizabeth Thorpe (Shane), Matthew Bliss (Sara), Chad Ruhl, and Eric Ruhl (Jenny). She also enjoyed eleven great-grandchildren.
Ibbie was an avid reader and enjoyed walking in her neighborhood where she lived for over fifty years. Her many interests included traveling with the TopNotch travel club, bowling, and watching the Boilermakers and Cubs play ball. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with her high school classmates through her monthly luncheons. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in school activities and sporting events. Ibbie liked to keep busy and cherished her many friendships. She was loved dearly by her family and will be missed greatly.
