Humberto “Bert” Valdez, 75, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. He was born on March 16, 1943 in San Benito, N.L., Mexico to Benita Gonzalez and Erasmo Q. Valdez. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to be in his life. He is preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his four children, Elma Lopez, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Maria; his four children: Belinda Garcia, Bert Jr. (Lilia), John Gilbert (Emilia) and Yvonne (Sergio Aguirre), 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; his siblings: Oscar (Alicia), Erasmo Jr. (Marta+), Ruben (Connie), Rogelio (Adelita), Jose Baldemar (Alma), Dora (George Longoria), Richard, Nora (Ruben Zamora), and Osiel (Letty); also left to cherish his memories are numerous nieces and nephews.Bert was the eldest of eight brothers and two sisters. He was brought to the United States as a teenager and was instilled with a strong work ethic by his immigrant parents. He became a US citizen at a young age and achieved great success in the construction industry beginning in Chicago, Illinois area then later moved closer to home where he became owner of Bert’s Builders and Bert’s Bail Bonds in Harlingen, TX. In later years he reinvented himself and became an investor and businessman until his retirement. He enjoyed sports playing baseball in his youth and later golf. He cherished his children and grandchildren very much and was supportive of them. Bert was also a role model and mentor to his brothers and sisters throughout his life.We will dearly miss Beto in our lives and will forever cherish the many memories he has left in our hearts.
