Our sweet mother and grandmother returned to her Heavenly Father on May 13, 2015 at the age of 93. She is reunited with her eternal companion, Vernal, and family that anxiously welcomed her home. Hulda was born on April 23, 1922 in Boise, Idaho to Lincoln Pearl and Emma M. Lamm, the youngest of nine children. She spent her younger years playing and helping out on the family farm. At the age of 14, she first met our father at a softball game, where she was the pitcher for her team. This grew into a special friendship and on July 23, 1940 they were married and made their first home in Kuna, Idaho.
The United States had become involved in World War II, so the family moved to Vancouver, Washington and our Dad and Mother became welders on the war ships. Mother was so small she was put into tight places on the ship to do the needed welding. Our Dad was drafted into the army on March 13, 1943, leaving Mother with a small daughter and baby to care for. After the war our parents were blessed with four more children. Mother became a homemaker. She made wonderful bread, canned many jars of fruit and vegetables and was a seamstress. In March 1955, our family was sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Those left to cherish her memory are five children, Wanda and William Overton of Eagle, Idaho, Gloria and Newell Harward of Loa, Utah, Duane Holladay of Boise, Idaho, Judy and Terrence Tohara of Hawi, Hawaii, Brent and Jan Holladay of Vero Beach, Florida, and Milton Hammond of Blackfoot, Idaho. Hulda is preceded in death by her husband, Vernal Holladay; one daughter, Karen Jo Hammond; her parents; sisters, Daisy Daken, Francis McBride, Nellie Sparks and infant sisters Lucina, Helen, and Hazel Lamm; as well as her brothers, Henry and Willis Lamm. She leaves behind a great posterity of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 9:00-9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the LDS Chapel located at 190 S. Locust Grove Rd., Meridian.
