Hugo F. Casatelli, 91, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday morning surrounded by his loving family. Hugo was born in West New York, New Jersey, and moved to Italy to attend classes at the Abbey of Monte Cassino at the age of 12. At the end of World War II, he was an interpreter for the Foreign Service of the United States in Rome, Italy. He returned to the United States to complete high school at Jersey Prep in Jersey City and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from NJIT.

He worked for 30 years at Curtiss-Wright as a project manager supporting the testing of Rolls-Royce engines that were used in power stations and aircrafts worldwide. After Curtiss-Wright, Hugo also worked for Plessey Dynamics and GEC of England. He was a parishioner of St. Pio of Pietrelcina in Lavallette and a member of the Lavallette Yacht Club for over 49 years. Hugo is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille Lawton Casatelli; his sister, Lillian Riccardelli; three children – Mark and his wife Laura, David and his wife Christine, and Adrienne Casatelli-Gerken and her husband William; 8 grandchildren – Ryann Casatelli, Kristen Vargas and her husband Joseph, Rachel Casiano and her husband Wil, Ashley and Jessica Casatelli, Gregory Gerken and his wife Danielle, Thomas Gerken, and Nicholas Gerken; 4 great-grandchildren – Titus and Beatrix Vargas, and Lilith and Alice Casiano; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins living in both the United States and Italy.
