Mr. Hughie Gene “Gobbler” James, 83, died Sunday, May 3, 2020, at his home in Pontotoc, MS.. Jimmie D. Carr officiating..Born in Lafayette County to the late William Cooper and Ruby Ratliff James, Mr. James was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He retired from the City of Oxford where he worked as a mechanic for the water department. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stacks James. Survivors include four daughters, Ann Mooneyham and her husband, Howard of Water Valley, MS, Renea James of Pontotoc, MS, Kay Leamond and her husband, Ross of Oxford, MS and Kerrie Kelly and her husband, Jerry of Pontotoc, MS; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.. James’ memory may be made to Springhill Methodist Church, CR 459, Oxford, MS 38655.
