Hubert Madison Reynolds born to Chaffee Paul and Charlotte Ann Kelley Reynolds on December 21, 1939, entered eternity on April 11, 2022, after several weeks of heart failure concerns. He was born in Cody, Wyoming. He had a sister, Julia Freeman, and a brother, Robert Ducate. Over the course of his life he lived in Wyoming, Colorado, Hawaii, Minnesota and Arkansas. He married Carol in July 1961 and they had a daughter, Megan and her husband, Matt and a son, Daniel and his wife Kristen. Hugh was blessed with four granddaughters, Olivia, Elizabeth, Katherine and Emily.
He worked a variety of interesting jobs from being a cowboy ranch hand in Colorado to Public Health Inspector in Minnesota. Upon retirement, he gave eight years of service as a volunteer van driver for the Veteran’s Administration. He was an avid reader and had a love of knowledge. He graduated high school from Chula Vista in Cody, Wyoming. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ft. Lewis College in Colorado. He was a certified school teacher and taught biology at the Lookout Mountain School for Boys in Golden, Colorado. He acquired a Ferrier certification from Oregon State University. He attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada and received his Elder’s appointment. He attended a range of AnaBaptist churches and taught Sunday School in many of them.
The one aspect of Hugh’s life that showed his truest nature was his love of dogs. He found them to be a constant companion. The highlight of his dog passion was sled racing and winning many awards for his efforts. He had a variety of hobbies from camping and fishing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in the Arrowhead of Minnesota to gun range shooting and making bread. He was a sucker for Western Sizzlin free meals that only cost him whatever slick sales was being pitched.
No one will deny that Hugh was strong willed, opinionated, and sometimes hard to get along with; but that same strength of character allowed him to choose his friends, love them to the best of his ability and truly pray for them. As health was deteriorating and final affair decisions were being made, Hugh asked me what did I want? I told him I wanted one of his Bibles. It is from that Bible that I read from the inscription he wrote, though addressed to me, I believe it could be said of all that are gathered here today, “this Bible is given by Hugh Reynolds as promised. Use it to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for your friendship over the years. Your Friend and Fellow believer, Hugh Reynolds.” So, it is a life largely lived in a short 82 years, now lives on in each of us, his friends.
