Hubert LeRoy Cox completed his earthly journey on February 24, 2017 at 82 years of age. He was welcomed through Heaven’s Gates by the love of his life, Sandy Bristol Cox, his amazing parents Samuel Roy & Bernice Reel Cox and many family members and friends, to include a lifetime of beloved canine companions, that he’s held close in his heart. Born October 19,1934, LeRoy grew up surrounded by his extensive family consisting of many Aunts, Uncles & Cousins and some very special Grandparents. Family became the cornerstone of his life and is part of the legacy he leaves. Hunting and Fishing were ingrained in him and at a very young age his marksmanship skills allowed him to compete all over the state of Indiana with his father. He had the honor of winning multiple state championship titles in match rifle competitions. He attended Anderson High School where he participated in Track and Cross-Country and began his impressive career with General Motors at Guide Lamp. He proudly served his country in both the Naval Reserves and the US Army receiving Distinguished Service Awards. While in the Army he continued his marksmanship competitions and some of his favorite stories centered around his time serving in Germany. Upon returning to the US he resumed his career with Guide Lamp and spent many years mastering his craft and mentoring others in his skilled trade as an electrician. He spent several of his last years with GM as Maintenance Supervisor and thoroughly loved his job. He spoke often about the roughly 80 people he supervised and bragged about having the “best guys and that they could do anything”. He ended his impressive career after 45 years with GM, yet continued to work another 2 years as a contractor performing the work he was passionate about. He began attending First Church of the Nazarene in 1969 (thank you Nellie Perkins), was a member of Solar Masonic Lodge and was accomplished at both bowling and golf. He thoroughly enjoyed his Cousins and Traveling Buddies, Sheryl Nivens and Sheila Reel. Through his career, children and activities he acquired many friends so dear to him. Left to cherish his memory are his children Holly Upperman (Paul Sibley) and Sam (Kim) Cox; his Grandchildren Cody Upperman, Kelsey Upperman, Casey Upperman & Cully Upperman, Trevor Cox, & Kassandra Cox (Djay Puckett) and Brett (Amber) Cox & Bradley Cox. LeRoy leaves seven Great-Granddaughters Addisen Puckett, Madison Cox, Johanna Cox, Hannah Jaslowski, Naomi Jaslowski, Aailyah Jaslowski, and Elaina Jaslowski. He is also survived by his favorite Aunt, Wilma June Nivens in Livingston, TN and his Uncle, Kenneth Reel in Vandalia, OH. His family would like to give a special thank you to his caregiver and friend Brittany Taylor.
