Frederick, Maryland- Hubert Joseph “Whitey” Eaton of Frederick, MD passed away on Sunday October 26, 2014 shortly after his 90th birthday.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Regina Bergling Eaton in 2011. Mr. Eaton was born in Berlin, NY on October 22, 1924. He grew up in Kensington, MD graduating from Blair High School. He served in the US Army, training as a parachute jumper in the First Battalion, 401st Glider Infantry Regiment. While he didn’t make any jumps in battle, he did see action in the Battle of the Bulge, suffering severe frostbite in his feet. He received a Bronze Star.

After the war, Mr. Eaton helped establish the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad, contributing to the design of their first squad truck. He worked in a variety of professions including fence building and printing. He enjoyed wood working, gardening and horshoes and was a founding member of Rocky Sams camping group in Rockville, MD. He retired in 1988, moving to Myrtle Beach, SC where he resided for 21 years.

Mr. Eaton is survived by his 5 children Charles F. Eaton and his wife Martina, Michael J. Eaton and his wife Christina, Robert M. Eaton and his wife Suzanne, Marie Watkins and her husband Frank, Richard A. Eaton and his wife Barbara as well as 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Frances Cannon.
