West Bend. Howard Struecker, the son of William and Emma Kroeger Struecker was born July 21, 1924, in West Bend, Iowa, Whittemore Township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whittemore, IA. He attended school at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Whittemore.

He served his country in the United States Army from 1944-1946. After returning home, he was united in marriage with Eunice Roggow at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend. The couple lived in West Bend, where Howard worked for the West Bend Elevator for 43 years and another 5 years part-time. Howard was very active in his church congregation where he served as Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Elder, Treasurer, Secretary, Trustee, LLL Treasurer and LLL Zone Treasurer in Emmetsburg, and a volunteer at Camp Okoboji. Howard was a proud member of the United States Armed Forces where he was awarded the citations including Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Army Occupation Meritorious United Award, Asiatic Pacific WW II Victory Combat Action, Philippines Defense Occupation Service, Philippines Liberation Marksman MI rifle, and the Bronze Star Medal.

Survivors include his children Charlotte (Dennis) Robertson of Joplin, MO, Dennis (Kim Hayden) Struecker of Port Townsend, WA, Sheryl (Bruce) Schuchard of St. Louis MO, foster daughter Sharon (Jesse) Manwarren of Emmetsburg, IA; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother Willis and sisters Retta, Alice and Janice. He was preceded in death by his wife Eunice, son Darwin and brothers and sisters, Glenn, Carl, Clarence, Norman, Alden, Gordon, Esther and Elda.
