Howard “PoPo” Lafayette Duckworth, 86, passed away at his ranch in Sisterdale, Texas August 24, 2010. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 2, 1923 and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1940. He attended college at the University of Oklahoma. Howard was a veteran of WWII where he was stationed in Greenland. He was an avid golfer, hunter and rancher. In the 1950″s, he owned and operated the feed store in the Diengner building. He then worked at the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio during the 1950″s and 60″s. From 1969 ” 1985, he co- owned and operated with his partner, Jack McGinnis, the Town and Country Manor Nursing home in downtown Boerne. Anyone who knew Howard knows how much his ranch meant to him. He will be deeply missed. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Thomas Gunter Duckworth and Pauline Kaho Duckworth, his brother Thomas Gunter Duckworth and Willis Classen Duckworth, his wife of 56 years. Survivors include his wife Betty Wert Duckworth, daughter Carolyn Duckworth Lehman and husband Tom of Corpus Christi, son Howard Classen Duckworth of San Antonio. Grandchildren Lance Swedlund and wife Nikki of Pflugerville, Kelly Mahan and husband John of New Braunfels, Cody Duckworth and Devin Duckworth of Boerne. Great-Grandchildren Leif, Taylor, Landon and Gracelyn Swedlund, Chandler and Corbin Mahan. His extended family Kelly Wert and wife LeAnn and family of Colorado and Mitchell Wert and wife Claudia and family of Houston.
