Born in Lowell, MA, Howard was the son of the late Leonard J. McGee and Dorothy H. Silk, of Lowell, MA.  He graduated from Lowell High School in 1960.

Howie was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.  He was the founding publisher of Atlantic Publications in Hampton, NH for over 35 years, where he published more than a dozen different titles over those years.

He was appointed by Governor John Sununu as a NH Fish and Game Commissioner.  He had served as Executive Director on the Board of Directors for the Hampton Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.  Howie was an active member of the community as well as various clubs.  He was a member of the Vets Memorial Center; American Legion Post 344 Merritt Island; American Legion Post 65 Delray Beach; American Legion Post 35 Hampton; Scottish Rite Valley of Nashua; Scottish Rite Valley of Portsmouth and Dover; Scottish Rite Freemasonry; Shrine Bektash Temple AAONMS Concord; Kiwanis; 32nd Degree Masonic Kilwinning Lodge, Lowell; and the 100 Club.

For many years he sponsored a “Family Day” for patients and their families from the Dialysis Unit at Children’s Hospital of Boston, where for one day all who participated focused on fun and family instead of their illness.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Virginia (Yapp) McGee; his children, Kimberly and husband Frank Beardsworth of Dover, NH, Kristen and husband Daniel King, of Richmond Hills, GA, Kendra McGee of Rochester, NH; stepsons Robert Bolduc of Cumberland, ME, Christopher Bolduc and wife Jill of Cumberland, ME; nine grandchildren and two great granddaughters; Special nieces, Tricia and husband Dan Schwab and family of Merritt Island, FL, and Alicia Forzano of Cocoa Beach, FL; his brother, Leonard J. McGee, of Manchester, NH; many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister Cynthia McGee and a brother Richard McGee.

His family and friends will always remember him as a caring, compassionate, giving person, and full of life. He loved his family, he enjoyed time with family and friends. Over the past decade he developed a real passion for cruising the seas, and he was always looking to bring others along with him. He never let a good deal slip away!
