Howard L. Gutekunst, 76, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at his home.

He was born October 17, 1931, in Jacksonville, the son of Lamar H. and Louise Holloway Gutekunst. He married Donna Thomas on June 16, 1957, in Jacksonville and she survives.

Mr. Gutekunst was a 1949 graduate of Jacksonville High School and then graduated from Illinois College. He was the owner of Acme Electronics in Jacksonville for over thirty years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Springfield Scottish Rite, a member of Henry Clampit Chapter of DeMolay, a 55-Year member of Harmony Lodge #3, A.F. & A.M., and was active in Zingabad Grotto.

He had also received the DeMolay Legion of Honor Chevalier Degree. He was devoted to his farm and his farm animals. He showed a great concern for animals and plants and was a loyal visitor to many shut-ins. Howard was a very devoted husband.
