Howard “Buddy” Joseph Newman, Jr.

Buddy Newman, 78, of Miami, Florida, passed into eternity on February 18, leaving behind his loving wife, 5 adoring children, 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister.
Buddy, as he was known to family and his many friends, was born on May 5, 1943, at West Point, New York to Stella and Howard Joseph Newman, Sr.
He grew up in Florida with very little, aside from a strong and loving mother and a big sister who often helped take care of him. He graduated from Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville in 1960.
Throughout his younger years, Buddy was always very active in sports, including serving as captain of his high-school football team. His love of sports and his leadership abilities continued throughout his life.
Always a hard worker, Buddy got his first paper route when he was just 10-years old, constantly working until his well-deserved retirement in 2003.
After serving honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Buddy went back to school, graduating from the University of Florida with honors before going on to a long and fruitful career with the Dow Chemical company.
Buddy’s work took him and his family overseas including 7 years in Mexico, 4 years in Brazil, 4 years in Switzerland, and many shorter stays around the world. Living abroad was a constant adventure and one of the many highlights of his extraordinary life. He deeply valued the many close friends he made along his journeys around the world and stayed close to them until the end.

Buddy loved the Lord and gave Him credit for all of his many blessings in this life. He worked diligently to instill good values and moral principles in his children. He never gave up on his children even long after many others would have.
Buddy will be remembered as a loving, generous and kind-hearted man who never tired of doing good and who had a wonderful sense of humor that lit up any room. He always had the courage to speak his mind and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his caring wife of 43 years Katherine Newman, his older sister Jackie Sikes, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his five loving children: Michelle Bryant Griffin, Troy Hobbs, Cindy Baker, Alex Newman, and Cory Newman.
