Howard J. “Mutt” (McDannold) McDaniel, 87, of Waverly, died Wed. Nov. 14, 2012, at his residence.
He was born July 4, 1925, in Meredosia, the son of Andy and Marie Surratt McDaniel. He married Arlene Herron on Sept. 14, 1957, in Guthrie County, IA, and she survives.
He is also survived by four children, Roxann McDaniel (companion of 29 years, Earl McMeans), Michael McDaniel, Greg McDaniel (companion, Brenda Lacy), all of Jacksonville, and Vicky Summers (husband of 23 years, Jim) of Athensville; a grandson, Brad McMeans of Jacksonville; five granddaughters, Heather McDaniel of Macon, GA., Michael Shane McDaniel of Quincy, Tabitha Spencer of Meredosia, Ashley Crader(husband, Isaiah) of Winchester, and Torie Summers of Jacksonville; four great grandchildren, Emma Louise Symmons, Riley Myers, Skylar Crader, and Alexia Summers; and one brother, Joe McDannald of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and step-mother Ollie McDannald; two brothers, Sherman and Kenneth McDannald; and four sisters, Wanda “Humpy” Scott, Elta “Sue” Lewis (surviving husband, Donald of Quincy), Garnetta Callet, and Stella “Dot” Smith (surviving husband, Mitchell of Havana).
Mr. McDaniel was a railroad worker for thirty-two years. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. After retiring in 1988, he worked as a security guard for Pur-Mar. Mutt was an outdoors-man, loving boating and sitting on his porch. He enjoyed old cars and collecting railroad memorabilia. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and especially loved his grandchildren.
