Howard H.S. Chao, a well-known Chinese-American journalist, passed away early Friday morning, June 29, 2012 in Danbury, Connecticut. He was born in Xixian, Honan, China, on November 29, 1920. Mr. Chao began his career as a reporter at the Central Daily News of Chongching and the Southeastern Daily News of Shanghai, and later became a correspondent based in Japan, where he met his wife. He came to the United States in 1952 and taught Chinese language at Yale University. For many years he was also the author of a syndicated news column with a global audience. His other publications include the books “Chinese Scholars in America” and “Eighty Years-Family and Country” (a memoir).

He is survived by his wife, Chie; two children Patricia and Larry; daughter-in-law Carmen; and grandchildren Victoria and Christina.
