Howard Glen Voss passed away at FHN Memorial Hospital with his family by his side and was received into Heaven on December 7, 2013.

He was born on November 1, 1925, the son of John A. and Edna (Roberts) Voss in Florence Township. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1945, stationed in the Philippines. After serving in the Army, he began his lifelong career farming in Stephenson County and was a proud member of the Stephenson County Farm Bureau. On January 1, 1950, he married Dorothy P. Meyers in Thompson, IL. Due to his love of the land, he was honored with the Stephenson County Soil and Water Conversation District Farm Family of the Year. Dedicated to the dairy industry, Howard served on the Midwest Dairymen’s Association Board of Directors. He was a member of the Shannon American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Park Hills Evangelic Free Church of Freeport, IL. He also was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy, of Shannon, IL, one daughter, Kathy Brenner, of Shannon, IL, and a son, Randy Voss, of Freeport, IL. As well as his grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Brenner of Freeport, IL, Sarah (Donald) Graybill of Dakota, IL, Stephanie (Matthew) Mitchell of Freeport, IL, Shevawn Brenner of Shannon, IL, Ryan Voss of Freeport, IL, Kri sta (Carlos) Perez of Freeport, IL and Rodney Voss of Freeport, IL. He also has 14 precious great-grandchildren, who were the joy of his life in his later years, including Brian, Madasyn, Marianna, Mason, Trevor, Ethan, Eli, Emily, Jacob, Mya, Emily, Joseph, Justine, and Jasmine. Also surviving are one brother, LaVern (Yvonne) Voss of Pearl City and two sisters, Marie Kerr of Shannon, IL and Marjorie Manthei of Shannon, IL; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Kenneth, Milford, Virgil, one grandson, Jason Voss, a son-in-law, Claire Brenner and two brothers-in-law Norman Kerr and Glenn Manthei. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary.
