Obituary

WHITEDEER — Howard E. “Short” Fetzer, 91, of White Deer, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008 at Kramm Health and Rehabilitation Center, Watsontown where he had been residing the past few months.

Born July 15, 1916 in Liberty Twp., Montour County, he was the son of the late Reese and Bessie (Prowant) Fetzer. He attended the Potts Grove School and on June 19, 1948 he married the former Mildred G. Harris. They would have been celebrating 60 years of marriage next month.

Mr. Fetzer retired from the Warrior Run School District where he had been a custodian in the Middle School for 13 years. Earlier in his life he farmed in the Schuyler and Muddy Run Road areas and had lived in the Muncy Hills for a period of time.

He was a member of the Community Christian Church of Allenwood and mowed their lawns for 13 years.

An avid Phillies fan, he enjoyed attending their baseball games in Philadelphia. He also looked forward to going to area festivals.

Surviving besides his wife are a son and his companion, Timothy H. Fetzer and Bonnie Bailey of Shamokin Dam; a daughter and son-in-law; Jean and David Schenck of New Columbia; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Harvey, Thomas, and Harold Fetzer, all of Milton; and three sisters: Margaret Derr, Milton; Ida Mae Milhiem, Muncy and Tressie Hilkert, Washingtonville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and his wife: Elmer and Anna Mae Fetzer; a sister and her husband, Emma Jane and Alvin Smith; and a brother-in-law, Donald Hilkert.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Watsontown with the Rev. Dennis D. Huratiak, his pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 7 PM. The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Community Christian Church of Allenwood.
