Howard Clayton Roberts, 88, of Merritt Island, entered the presence of his Lord and was reunited with his wife, Norma Jean, on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. He passed away peacefully at Wuesthoff Hospice House, in Viera, with family by his side.
Howard was born on July 15, 1929 in Huntsville, Alabama. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Florence State Teacher’s College in Florence, Alabama. While at college, he met his future wife, Norma Jean Harbin. Following their graduation, Howard and Jean were wed in Winfield, Alabama, in August 1954. After their wedding, they moved to the Washington, D.C. area and both began work for the newly formed National Security Agency (NSA). During this timeframe Howard also served in the United States Navy in 1952 and the United States Army from 1952 – 1955.
After a 35 year career with the NSA, Howard retired in 1989. Post retirement Howard and Jean moved to Merritt Island, FL. They toured Europe, multiple states in the U.S. and cruised to many of the islands in the Caribbean.
Howard is preceded in death by his loving wife Norma Jean, his parents Johnnie B. Roberts and Kate Lou Roberts, and son-in-law Shawn D. Crouch. He is survived by his sisters Betty Hunter (Buddy) and Mary Lou Duncan (Joe), his daughters Renee’ Hart (Bob), Terri Rice (John), and Lisa Crouch, and his granddaughters Stephanie Morgan (Mark), Robin Hart, and his great grandsons Chase and Bryce Morgan. He is survived as well by countless additional family members and friends.
Howard will be remembered for his love and devotion to his late wife, Norma Jean, during their 62 years of marriage, as a great Dad to his three daughters and as beloved Poppy to his granddaughters and great-grandsons.
