Howard Allen Chandler, of Birmingham, AL died peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 19, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.K. and Mamie Chandler; his brother, Harry Lee Chandler; and sister, Mary Ann Martin. He is survived by his wife of 65 years of marriage, Norma Jean Chandler; son, Richard Wayne Chandler (Debbie); daughters, Jean and Jane Chandler; grandchildren, Laura Wynn (Joel), Richard Cortright (Marissa); and 8 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War (1950-1954), ranked as a Personnel Man Third Class, stationed in Norfolk, VA on the USS Minos ACG-17. He worked as an accountant for Martin Marietta Cement Co. for 30 years and as a courier for Quest Diagnostics for 20 years, until his retirement at the age of 81. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. James Frey and St. Vincent’s Hospice and the caregivers of Homewatch.
