Hortencia Bazaldua Rodriguez (Tencha), was born on February 27, 1921, in Laredo, Texas. She passed away into eternal peace on Friday, May 7, 2021, in San Antonio, at the age of 100. She was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who was well-loved and will be forever missed.
Hortencia worked as a nutritionist with the Texas A&M program in Webb county. She retired at the age of 65 and devoted time to her church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and her family. Tencha participated in the choir and was a member of the Guadalupana Society. She was a proud mother of two sons, Jesus Raul Rodriguez and Eduardo Javier Rodriguez. She loved cooking, baking, and being surrounded by her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jesus M. Rodriguez (Tute); her son, Eduardo Javier Rodriguez (Harvey); her father, Juan Pablo Bazaldua; her mother, Eduarda Caballero Bazaldua (mother); and her siblings, Mario A. Bazaldua, Hector Luis Bazaldua, Margarita F. Garcia, Rita A. Esparza, and Juan F. Bazaldua.
Left to cherish her memory are her oldest son, Raul (Rosalie) Rodriguez; her grandchildren: Griselda (Scott) Bengel, Geraldina (Michael) Genovese, Graciela (Kevin) Lindberg, James Ryan Rodriguez, Stacy (Charles) Brooks, Yvette Rodriguez, Eduardo Javier Rodriguez Jr.; as well as seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved so much.
The family extends loving gratitude to the Seraphic Sisters, and to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Saint Francis Nursing Home.
