Horace A. Reeves Jr., 87 Better known as Harrie to his family and Hal to his friends, Horace passed away on November 25, 2017, at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, NJ, surrounded by his family. Horace was the beloved son of Horace A. Reeves Sr., Lillryn M. Albeck (Hawk), and stepfather, Dr. Elton Albeck. He was the husband of the late Mary Louise (Jennings) Reeves whom he met while at Haddonfield High School and married in 1954. Together they raised two children, Philip J. Reeves (Nancy Zeppa) of Burlington City, NJ, and Jennifer L. Zmirich Herré (Jaime Herré) of Hobe Sound, Florida. He is survived by two grandchildren, Alexander J. Zmirich and Leila Herré. He is also survived by his sister’s four children, Dr. Nancy Indriso (Colleen Colledge), Dr. Andrew Indriso (Fran), Cynthia Indriso, and Debra Gimello (Stephen).
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy R. Indriso Horace was born on Magnolia Ave in Wildwood, NJ, in 1930 and moved frequently as a child. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and graduated from Haddonfield High School. After high school he enrolled in the U.S. Marine Corp and was called back to the Reserves in 1950. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1955 with a degree in civil engineering. He continued his father’s business, Horace A. Reeves Construction Company, Willingboro, NJ, in 1965 for more than 40 years. Horace was also a licensed architect and a Professional Engineer.
Horace was the last surviving founding member of the Willingboro Rotary Club and was its president in 1966. He was active in the International Yachting Fellowship of Rotarians. He co-founded the Willingboro International Festival in the 1973. Horace was an active member of the Burlington County Chamber of Commerce. He was elected to the Borough Council of Riverton, NJ, in 1993. Horace enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, in the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands. He traveled widely including the US, Europe and China. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed classical music and opera. He was a subscriber to the Philadelphia Orchestra for many years. He leaves behind many dear friends including Eleanor Leyrer and Sandy Tucker and many in the Willingboro Rotary Club.
