Hope McCown, 90, of Spirit Lake, passed away Friday, April 24, 2008, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
She was born on December 10, 1917, in Des Moines, Iowa, to L.H. and Myrtle (Craig) Loomis. Hope was united in marriage to Cliff McCown on June 27, 1948, and they made their home in Harlan, Iowa, before moving to Arnolds Park. Cliff passed away September 12, 1985.
Hope graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1936, and then went on to further her education, graduating from Simpson College in 1940.
She started working in the Polk county Welfare Department in 1940, and continued in the field of social services in Clay County, the Iowa State Department of Social Services and Dickinson County, where she served as a County Director for 19 years, until she retired in 1979.
Hope was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Plus Inc., Voluntary Action Program and in the 1970′
