Homer A. Russell Jr., known as ‘Russ’ to friends and family, passed away in his sleep on the evening of 8 June 2013. Russ was 88 1/2 years old and lived a rich and interesting life where he saw much of the world. He was generous and always thought about his family and fellow man first. As a depression era child, he grew up knowing the importance of saving and of not wasting anything that could be re-purposed. His love of music and his love of cooking accompanied him throughout his life.
He was a devoted husband to Linda, his wife of 63 years; a nurturing father to his children Art Russell, Sheri North, Page O’Connor, and Valerie Russell Powery; a loving grandfather to Lindsay, Matthew, and Kaela, and a wonderful father-in-law to Phil North, Dean Powery and Jane Russell. An Army Air Corps Cadet during World War II, he served his country for 30 years as an Air Force fighter pilot with combat tours in Korea where he flew 104 combat missions and Viet Nam where he was advisor to the Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations for the Republic of Vietnam.
