Hilery “Hero” Hooks, age 26 of Dozier, passed away at 3:48 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center after undergoing major heart surgery.

The family felt God gave him to me for a short time for us to enjoy life together but he is now he’s taken  home to be with God.

Hilery was born November 14, 1990 with Marfan’s syndrome. The disease disabled him and caused heart problems even as a young child. His disability caused him to feel unequal to his friends because he could never work. He did love to hunt, fish, playing video games and hanging out with his friends even as he was in pain all his life.  Even on his death bed, he was worried about his mother and who would take care of her. That is how he became known to those who loved him as “Hero”.

Left to cherish his memory; daughters, Leslie, Harmony, and Brianna Hooks of Opp; Mother, Mary Hooks of Dozier; sister, Sue (Roy) Jackson of Opp; brother, Michael (Darlene) Stewart of Sevierville, TN; nieces, Micha Stewart, Allison Jackson; nephew, Clayton Jackson; very special friends, Cory and Denny Burton; Tyler Macaluso, John and Donna Fisher, and Chris Kilpatrick, who prayed with him often on the phone while in hospital.
