Mrs. Hildred J. Barringer,of 118 Ridgeway Drive, Thomasville, NC was a former resident of High Point for over thirty years. She went into eternal rest on October 26, 2011.
Hildred was born on April 10, 1930, a daughter of the late Robert Ervin and Beatrice Beatty Ervin in Mecklenburg County. She was a 1948 graduate of Plato Price High School. She received the Bachelor of Science Degree from Winston-Salem Teachers College, now Winston-Salem State University, where she met and married her husband. Post graduate studies were done at North Carolina A&T University. Her teaching career began in High Point and she retired after thirty-one years from the High Point City School System as a classroom and Special Needs teacher. She was a member of the National Education Association, Treasurer of the Montlieu Ave. PTA, as well as a team leader who was sent to Washington, DC to observe their schools. A spirit-filled musician, she started playing music for her church choir at thirteen. After moving to High Point she was pianist for St. Paul Presbyterian Church, Temple Memorial Baptist Church, and musician for Church of God of Prophecy Choir at Stanton Place for ten yrs, as well as Jessup St. Church of God of Prophecy in Lexington for eighteen yrs. She was a Missionary Leader, Mother of the church, and Feet washing coordinator in Lexington: Sunday school teacher, bulletin board coordinator, Bible school teacher, and on the kitchen committee at Stanton Place. Mrs. Barringer was President of the East End community prayer band which traveled in and out of town touching many lives.
Her husband of fifty-two years Willie J.Barringer, daughter, Daphne Barringer, son, Jaycarous Barringer, and brother, Robert C. Ervin preceded her in death.
Surviving relatives include a dear, devoted, loving and sweet daughter, Darlena Barringer of the home; granddaughter, Sheryl Barringer of GA; daughter-in-law, Sarah G. Barringer of High Point; aunt, Corine Floyd of Atlanta, GA; many other favorite cousins of Charlotte and Winston-Salem; three goddaughters, Robyn Moore of Charlotte, Inid McGill of Greensboro, and Syretta Henderson of Thomasville; many other relatives and friends.
