Hilda Margaret Callaway Center, age 81, of Greensboro, Georgia, died on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family. Hilda was a native of Greene County and graduated from Greensboro High School in the class of 1956. Born January 1, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Willie Raymond Callaway, Sr. and Nancy Margaret Ogletree Callaway. For most of her working career she served as the secretary to the Superintendent of the Richmond County Board of Education. Hilda was a member of the National Shelley China Club and had an extensive collection of the beautiful Shelley teacups. She also collected Pino fine art and Armani figurines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Center. Survivors include a son, Frederick Drew Evans III and wife Brandy R. Evans of Greensboro, GA, and daughter, September Lee Evans of Athens, GA; brother, Willie Raymond “Bill” Callaway, Jr. and wife Ann of Union Point, GA; five grandchildren, Caroline Lynsey Resop-Bowman and husband Alex Resop-Bowman of Jefferson, GA, Fredrick Drew Evans IV and wife Jessica Fitchett Evans of Charlotte, NC, Samuel Callaway Evans and wife Allie Evans of Peachtree City, GA, Ryals Hunter Evans of Athens, GA and Charles Raynor Evans of Athens, GA; five great grandchildren, Easton James Evans, Elijah Drew Evans, Gabriel Callaway Evans, Maxwell Ewan Resop-Bowman and Eleanor Ruth Resop-Bowman; other relatives and many friends.
A private celebration of her life was held at her home on May 19, 2019. The family is very thankful to those who attended and to those who were unable to attend but sent kind thoughts and loving memories of Hilda. While gone from this life, Hilda taught us all how to love unconditionally and that lesson will carry on for generations to come.
