Hilda Gaye Childs
Hilda Gaye Childs, 97, of Terra Alta went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 with family by her side.
She was born April 16, 1918, in Manheim, a daughter of the late Walter and Lottie Felton Shaver.
Mrs. Childs helped her husband, Glenn start the Childs Feed and Supply in January 1958 and after his death continued to help her sons run the business. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society, was a 75year member of the Beatty United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who quilted, read, especially her Bible, gardened, loved her chocolate and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Mrs. Childs was a caregiver to many and a graduate of Rowlesburg High School.
She is survived by her sons, Dale Childs and wife, Martha of Morgantown, David Childs and wife, Aimee of Terra Alta and Ronald Childs and wife, Patty of Gettysburg, PA; her daughters, Mary Ellen Turner and Jean Murphy and husband, John, all of Terra Alta; her brother, Bud Shaver and wife, Betty of Carrollton, OH; a sister-in-law, Sue Shaver of Lavalette and a brother-in-law, Dick Childs and wife Sara, of Forrest Hills, MD, 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Childs; her daughter, Margaret Staley; four brothers, Les, Chuck, Jim and Ed and two sisters, Bernice and Helen.
