Heta Wagenhals, age 96 of Shelton, formerly of the Chelsea section of Manhattan, wife of the late Frederick Wagenhals, passed away peacefully Friday, December 22, 2017 at Benchmark at Split Rock. Born in Bremerhaven, Germany, the daughter of the late Albert and Hertha Millermann, she came to the United States in 1925 and had lived in New York City for most of her life until moving to Shelton two years ago. Heta earned her nursing degree in New York and enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse. She worked as an operating room nurse at various hospitals including Jamaica Hospital and also served as a nursing instructor at Queens General Hospital. Heta loved living in New York City and was a proud resident of Chelsea for many years. She loved the diversity of Chelsea and enjoyed dining in local restaurants, shopping, and walking her beloved dog, Charlie, with her friends. An avid reader, Heta loved biographies, the NY Post, The New York Times Book Review and the crossword puzzle. She was proudly independent and treasured a great thrift shop find. Survivors include her daughter, Gay S. Fields and her husband, Donald, of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Christopher Wagenhals of Neptune, NJ, Elizabeth Chinigo of Riveredge, NJ and Gerard Wagenhals of Neptune, NJ; five great-grandchildren, Briana, Gavin, Xander, Evangeline and Julia; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Wagenhals of Riveredge, NJ. She was predeceased by her son, Frederick Wagenhals, and her grandson, Gregory Fields.
